siri shortcuts and jottie workflows
february 2026
one of my favorite features in jottie 2.0 is siri shortcuts integration. it's the kind of thing that doesn't sound exciting until you start using it.
the basics
jottie exposes a bunch of actions to shortcuts:
- create note
- search notes
- get recent notes
- append to note
- get note by id
on their own, these are simple. but shortcuts lets you chain them together with other apps. that's where it gets interesting.
quick capture
the simplest workflow: a shortcut that creates a new note with today's date and opens jottie to it. i have this on my home screen and in my widget. one tap and i'm writing.
you can also set up voice capture. "hey siri, jot this down" followed by whatever you want to remember. it creates a note with the transcript.
meeting notes template
i have a shortcut that runs when i join a calendar event. it creates a new note with the meeting title, attendees, and date. starts me off with a template instead of a blank page.
shortcuts can pull calendar data, so you can automatically populate the meeting name and who's on the call. less friction = more likely to actually take notes.
daily journal
another simple one: a shortcut that runs every evening (automation trigger). it creates a note titled with today's date and prompts me with a few questions:
- what went well today?
- what could have gone better?
- what's on my mind?
the responses get combined into a single note. i've been more consistent with journaling since setting this up than i ever was with dedicated journal apps.
location-based notes
jottie already auto-tags notes with your location. but you can go further with shortcuts.
example: when i arrive at the office, a shortcut runs that creates a "daily standup" note with placeholders for what i'm working on. when i leave, it prompts me to capture any end-of-day thoughts.
location triggers are weirdly powerful for building habits.
reading notes
i use this one all the time. when i share a link to jottie from safari, a shortcut intercepts it and:
1. extracts the page title and url
2. creates a new note with the title and link
3. opens jottie so i can add my thoughts
now all my reading notes have consistent formatting and the source link is always there.
searching from anywhere
you can build a shortcut that searches jottie and returns results. i have one that lets me search my notes from spotlight. type "jn" (for jottie notes) and then my query.
the results show up as a list. tap one and it opens in jottie. it's faster than opening the app and navigating to search.
focus mode integration
ios focus modes can trigger shortcuts. so when i enter "writing" focus mode, a shortcut creates a new note for whatever i'm writing that session.
when i exit the focus mode, it prompts me to summarize what i accomplished. builds a nice log of writing sessions over time.
the meta point
shortcuts turn jottie into a building block. the app doesn't need to have every feature built in - you can compose it with other apps and automations.
this is why i went all-in on native ios development for 2.0. web wrappers can't do this stuff. shortcuts, widgets, focus modes, siri - these are platform features that only native apps can use.
if you're on ios and not using shortcuts, you're missing out. and if you're on ios and using jottie, the combination is pretty powerful.
share your workflows
if you build any interesting jottie shortcuts, i'd love to see them. hit me up on threads @hi.im.vijay. always looking for ideas to steal.
